Centennial Arena offers a variety of skating and hockey programs during the ice season from October to March.

Skating Programs
White Rock Recreation offers a variety of skating programs.
- Public Skate: Everyone is welcome to this general lap skating session.
- Tiny Tot & Parent Skate: Skate with your little ones 5 years and younger.
- Stick ’N Puck 18+: Bring your own puck. No games or scrimmages. Helmets are mandatory.
- Drop-In Hockey 18+: Helmets and full gear are mandatory. Pre-register to guarantee your spot. Two goalies play free.
- Drop-In Hockey 55+: Helmets and full gear are mandatory. Pre-register to guarantee your spot. Two goalies play free.
- Drop-In Figure Skating 18+: Pre-register to guarantee your spot.
- Drop-in Adult Skate 18+: Pre-register to guarantee your spot.
Skating Lessons: Skills learned in each level
Fundamental skills taught in a fun format. White Rock Recreation offers 10 levels of skating skills. If you are unsure which level to register your child for, contact a customer service representative at 604-541-2199.
Skate and helmet rentals are included. Please bring your own equipment if possible. CSA approved helmets are mandatory.
Preschool
Level 1: Magenta This level is for skaters who have not been on the ice before. Participants will learn Ice Safety, how to stand up on their own and how to begin to walk on the ice!
Level 2: Silver This level is for skaters who have completed Magenta. Skills taught in this level include; how to walk across the ice on their own using 2 feet, balance on 1 foot, and begin the scrape/snowplow sequence.
Level 3: Teal This level is for skaters who have completed Silver. Skills taught in this level include: 2 foot glides around cones, 1 foot glides, 2 foot hops, backwards walking and half snowplow stops.
Level 4: Purple This level is for skaters who have completed Teal. Skills taught in this level include: 2 foot glides around cones, 1 foot glides while turning, forwards and backwards sculling, and forwards pumping in a circle.
School Age
Level 1: Red This level is for children who have never been on the ice before. Skills taught in this level include; ice safety, standing, balance drills, gliding and an introduction to stopping and backwards.
Level 2: Orange This level is for children who are able to complete all skills in Red. Skills taught in this level include; 1-foot snowplow stops, backwards walking, and gliding on a circle.
Level 3: Gold This level is for children who are able to complete all skill in Orange. Skills taught in this level include; sculling across width of ice, stationary 2-foot turns, and 1-foot glides on a circle.
Level 4: Yellow This level is for children who are able to complete all skill in Gold. Skills taught in this level include; backwards “C” cuts, backwards stopping, T-pushes on outside edge, and 2 foot turns while skating.
Level 5: Green This level is for children who are able to complete all skill in Yellow. Skills taught in this level include; 2-foot side stops, backwards 1 foot glides, 1-foot backwards stops, and 2-foot turns on a circle.
Level 6: Blue This level is for children who are able to complete all skill in Green. Skills taught in this level include; backwards pumping, backwards crossovers, forward to backwards 3 turns, and combo sequences of 3 skills in a row.
