[ARCHIVED] City of White Rock reopening some outdoor facilities and summer camps

Lacrosse facility at Centennial Park in White Rock, B.C.

The City of White Rock is taking a phased-in approach to reopening outdoor facilities. With the direction of sport associations, and with physical distancing and community safety guidelines, City facilities are opening as follows:

Tennis and pickleball courts reopened on May 15 and playgrounds reopened on June 1.

Summer Camps

White Rock Recreation and Culture will be offering a selection of popular summer camps outdoors this year with increased community safety protocols, such as daily health screening for all participants, lower instructor-to-child ratios, and hand-washing and extra cleaning.

Visit www.whiterockcity.ca/register or call 604-541-2199 to inquire or register.

While regular community recreation programs have been cancelled for the Summer 2020 session and our recreation facilities remain closed at this time, some adapted adult outdoor fitness programs will be available this summer and announced later this month.

The City is pleased to offer healthy, outdoor recreation opportunities with adjustments to accommodate the need for physical distancing and other measures to ensure community safety. Residents and visitors are reminded to stay home if they feel unwell, avoid crowds and groups, and follow the instructions and guidelines indicated on the signage posted in the outdoor areas. Please continue to wash your hands and stay two metres apart.

Quotes

White Rock Mayor Darryl Walker

“We are pleased to be reopening our outdoor facilities and resume some summer activities with input from the experts. We want people to stay active and healthy while they enjoy all that White Rock has to offer.

Of course, we encourage people to continue listening to our health experts so that we can continue to enjoy these activities safely. We are in this together and we will get through this together.”
