The City of White Rock is encouraging people to wear orange on July 1 to remember the victims of residential schools across the country.
The City will present the second White Rock Virtual Canada Day by the Bay on July 1 through the City’s Facebook and YouTube accounts. The White Rock Pier will be lit red, white and orange on Canada Day.
Semiahmoo First Nation Chief Harley Chappell and White Rock Mayor Darryl Walker will both share Canada Day messages on July 1. For messages from Chief Chappell and Mayor Walker from National Indigenous Peoples Day, visit whiterockcity.ca/SFN.
At 1 p.m.
The Canada Day matinee show starts at 1 p.m. The show is hosted by White Rock Youth Ambassador Princess Ella Ramsay with O Canada to be sung by local performer Madison Bell. Entertainment is by Korki the Clown, the White Rock Museum and Archives and Dane Szohner, a Michael Bublé tribute singer.
The virtual photo booth will be available all day on July 1.
In the community, the Semiahmoo Arts Society and White Rock Community Policing are hosting a kids’ colouring contest.
After 7 p.m.
Evening performances include country band The Heels, pop duo Fionn and comedy group Hilarapy. The show kicks off at 7 p.m., starting with the White Rock City Orchestra performing O Canada.
