[ARCHIVED] Have your say about the Marine Drive temporary lane closure

Marine Drive One Way

The City of White Rock is looking for public input into the temporary closure of one lane of Marine Drive this season to expand patio space for restaurants during the pandemic.

The lane closure took place from June 7 to Aug. 11 and was approved while B.C. was in Step 2 of its Restart plan, which did not allow restaurants to offer indoor dining at full capacity.

City Council held Special Council meetings with East Beach and West Beach businesses to hear their impressions of the temporary lane closure. Council now invites all residents and businesses to have their say through a short survey at talkwhiterock.ca, the City’s engagement platform.

City Council voted to temporarily close the lane to allow Waterfront restaurants, struck hard by the pandemic, to expand into the street to set up tables for customers. City Council then voted to reopen the closed lane after the Province moved into Step 3 of BC’s Restart plan, which allows restaurants to operate at 100-per-cent capacity.

The Marine Drive lane closure survey, available until Sept. 3, 2021, will take about 10 minutes to complete. You can add your comments in addition to responding to questions. Paper copies of the survey are also available by calling City Hall at 604-541-2100 or emailing communications@whiterockcity.ca

Public input will help City Council with direct data and feedback that would be helpful should Council consider future lane closures.
