[ARCHIVED] City reopens West side of Ruth Johnson Park, asks visitors to stay out of East side

Danger - Park closure due to unstable slope

After repairing storm damage to the west area of Ruth Johnson Park, the City of White Rock has reopened the west portion of the park, including the trails at Duprez Ravine, to the public starting March 17, 2020.

Ruth Johnson Park experienced significant damage to its slopes, walkways and trees as the result of significant rainfall in January 2020. Coldicutt Ravine was closed on Jan. 31 as the result of slope failure.

Although the west portion has been repaired, visitors are asked not to enter the east portion, which is not yet safe. The City is still monitoring the situation to get a better understanding of the slope movement.

Visitors are asked to obey the trail closures and not to tamper with closure signs.

The City of White Rock will provide an update once all information needed to make a decision on repair strategy, estimates and the tender process, is in place.

Please remember it is dangerous to enter the closed areas of the park or Coldicutt Ravine at this time. As more areas open, the City will remove signage and inform residents that the areas have reopened.
