[ARCHIVED] National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - White Rock City Hall Closure

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, the City of White Rock will commemorate National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Day, known in recent years as Orange Shirt Day. The City will be observing this day to honour the children who suffered in the residential school system, and the many residential school survivors as part of its ongoing commitment to truth and reconciliation.

The Semiahmoo First Nation will be hosting a ‘Walk for Reconciliation’ for Truth and Reconciliation Day, to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.  On Thursday, September 30 Opening remarks will be shared at 1 p.m. at Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles Memorial Plaza, following will be the Walk for Reconciliation along the Promenade to Semiahmoo Park. Speakers, Drums Across Canada and an Honouring Ceremony will follow. Click here for event details.

White Rock City Hall Closure

White Rock City Hall will be closed on Thursday Sept. 30, 2021 for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

All City facilities will be closed Thursday. Sept. 30 and will reopen on Friday. Oct. 1. The facilities include:

  • Engineering and Municipal Operations – 877 Keil Street
  • Centennial Park Leisure Centre – 14600 North Bluff Road
  • Horst & Emmy Werner Centre for Active Living – 1475 Anderson Street
  • Kent Street Activity Centre – 1475 Kent Street
  • White Rock Community Centre – 15154 Russell Avenue

Waste Collection 

Garbage, recycling and green waste collection will change for the week of Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 due to the Truth and Reconciliation Day holiday (no pickup Sept. 30).
