Semiahmoo First Nation hosting 4th Annual Walk for Truth and Reconciliation

Semiahmoo First Nation walking for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

On September 30, the Semiahmoo First Nation invites the community to the 4th Annual Walk for Truth and Reconciliation at Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles Memorial Plaza on White Rock’s east beach. This free community event runs from 11am-2pm and includes activities and performances centred around this year’s theme: “Why Reconciliation Now?”

The centerpiece of the Walk for Truth and Reconciliation is the symbolic walk itself. Participants, including elders and residential school survivors, will journey from Grand Chief Charles Plaza to Semiahmoo Park. This walk represents a commitment to reconciliation and an acknowledgment of the shared path toward healing and understanding.

The event will also feature keynote speaker Grand Chief Steven Point, musical performances by renowned Indigenous artists and an Indigenous artist market. A complimentary lunch will be served, ensuring that everyone can partake in the communal spirit of the event.

“The Walk for Truth and Reconciliation is a step towards understanding and healing within our community,” said White Rock Mayor Megan Knight. “I am honored to stand alongside the Semiahmoo First Nation and all participants as we collectively ask ourselves, 'Why Reconciliation Now?' Together, we are committed to forging a path of mutual respect and shared growth.”
