Council Meeting Summary – May 27, 2024

Zoning Bylaw, 2024, No. 2506 – Updates To Address Bill 44 – Small Scale, Multi-Unit Housing (SSMUH) 
Council received a corporate report regarding proposed zoning bylaw amendments resulting from new Provincial housing legislation around small-scale, multi-unit housing, and directed staff to bring this bylaw forward for consideration of first and second reading at the June 10, 2024 Regular Council meeting. Representatives from the City’s consultant, MODUS Planning, Design & Engagement Inc., were in attendance to provide an in-depth review of how the new legislation will impact the City. 2023 Asset Improvement Projects Carried Over Into 2024 
Council received a corporate report detailing the 2023 capital asset improvement projects that have been carried over into the 2024 financial year.


Contract Award – Financial System Replacement 
Council approved award of contract for the City’s financial system replacement to Unit4 Business Software Corporation and Agilyx Solutions in the amount of $2.5M (excluding GST). 


Recommendation from the Public Art and Culture Advisory Committee 
Council supported a recommendation from the Committee endorsing the 2024 Street Banner Art Panel’s community art banner selection.


Recommendations from the Internal Community Hub Steering Committee 
Council supported two (2) recommendations from the Committee as follows:

  • Received the Committee’s feedback (regarding an offer of civic space as a density bonus by the applicant for a proposed development project at 1513 Johnston Road), which noted that the proposed location is suitable if the space provided can meet the needs of a 35,000-square-foot City Hall facility and if it includes staff and customer parking; and,
  • Endorsed the need for designated seniors’ activity space(s) to be included within a new Community Hub design.

 

The next Regular Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024.
