The City will end City collection of multi-family and commercial collection on June 30, 2015.
On 6 January 2015, the City announced that it would privatize all garbage, organics & recycling (solid waste) collection of multi-family complexes and commercial properties (i.e. condos, townhouses, apartments, co-ops, care homes, businesses, schools).
Solid waste collection in Metro Vancouver
The City of White Rock is one of the only municipalities in the Lower Mainland that collects solid waste for its commercial properties. The composition of solid waste varies from business to business, based on the type and its location. For example, a restaurant produces a different composition of waste than a hair salon. Our community will be better served by a private waste hauler who can meet a business or multifamily complex service need.
Municipal tax levy
The City funds garbage, recycling and organics pick up of all properties from the general tax levy. Collection is based on the classification and assessed value of your property. Therefore, multi-family and commercial general municipal tax levy will no longer include a charge for solid waste collection effective July 1, 2015.
Multi family complexes with six units or less
Multi-family complexes - with six or less units on a single parcel of land and/or no commercial businesses that use regular 110 litre curbside garbage cans - may be eligible to continue garbage, recycling and organics collection by the City of White Rock. It would be a similar service to the City’s single family home collection. Please contact the Operations Department at 604-541-2181 to discuss your eligibility.
If you have questions, please contact the Operations Department at 604-541-2181 and staff will be happy to answer specific queries.
