On October 5, 2012, Mayor Wayne Baldwin, Councillors' Campbell, Fathers, Hutchinson, and Meyer enjoyed the opening of White Rock's off-leash dog park with a number of their four-legged friends.
The dog park, which is located in Ruth Johnson Park between the Mel Edwards building and the playground, has been close to a year in the making. After the need for an off-leash dog park was brought forward, City staff and Council thoughtfully reviewed potential locations in order to find an area conducive to a dog park. The large, treed area in Ruth Johnson Park fit the bill.
Now that the fencing is in place, residents and their pooches can start putting the 37,000 sq. ft. dog park to good use.
“We are pleased to be able to fill this need within our community,” said Mayor Wayne Baldwin. “Ruth Johnson Park is an excellent location and I know that residents and their dogs will greatly enjoy this newly designated off-leash area.”
Those using the off-leash dog park are encouraged to pick up after their pets in order to ensure a clean park for all users.
