Volunteering is a great way for residents to get involved, provide input and expertise on important issues and make a positive contribution to our community. The City is currently accepting applications to fill vacancies on the following committees. Applicants from the City of White Rock are given priority but we welcome all volunteers! Committee terms will be for two (2) years, commending January 1, 2017 and ending December 31, 2018. Please send in your application by December 5, 2016.
Advisory Design Panel
Advises Council on the quality of design of the built environment of the City, specifically providing comments and suggestions to improve the design quality of development permit applications for new development in the City.
Membership Information: Minimum seven (7) members comprised of two (2) architects, one (1) landscape architect, engineer or urban planner, one (1) representative of the physically challenged, and four (4) residents of the City of White Rock. Two (2) year term (Chair and Vice Chair appointed by Council Annually).
Board of Variance
Adjudicates appeals for minor variances to the Zoning Bylaw, where compliance with the Zoning Bylaw would create an undue hardship. A combination of personal attributes, experience, community association, skills and knowledge will be considered for these positions.
Membership Information: Three (3) members. Three (3) year term commencing January 1, 2017.
Cultural Advisory Committee
The Cultural Advisory Committee is looking for members to advise staff and Council on cultural services and to monitor the progress of the 2014-2018 Cultural Strategic Plan. This is an excellent opportunity to build awareness, support art and culture initiatives in the community, encourage cooperation and coordination among organizations.
Membership Information: Up to thirteen (13) voting members, one (1) non-voting member of Council, and City staff as required.
Economic Investment Committee
To advise City Council and staff on matters referred to the Committee by Council regarding economic investment in the City. Appointees to this committee will represent a broad range of perspectives and expertise from the community’s business, investment, marketing, development and planning sectors.
Membership Information: Up to thirteen (13) voting members. Additionally, in a non-voting advisory capacity there will be the Executive Directors or designate of: The Business Improvement Association (BIA), Tourism White Rock and The Chamber of Commerce. In addition, one (1) member of Council, and Alternate, the Chief Administrative Officer and the Director of Planning and Development Services (or Designate) will be non-voting members of the Committee.
Environmental Advisory Committee
The Environmental Advisory Committee will advise City Council and staff with respect to environmental matters that have been directly referred to the Committee by Council and/or the Chief Administrative Officer.
Membership Information: up to seven (7) voting members, one (1) non-voting member of Council and Alternate and the Director of Engineering and Municipal Operations or Designate (non-voting).
Public Art Advisory Committee
To advise City Council on the implementation of public art policies and projects for the City.
Membership Information: up to seven (7) voting members, one (1) non-voting member of Council and City staff as required.
Tour de White Rock Committee
The Tour de White Rock Committee is mandated by City Council to organize, promote, and host a high profile elite caliber cycling event called the Tour de White Rock.
Membership information: up to nine (9) voting members, one (1) member from the community with expertise in planning and organizing cycling races, one (1) non-voting member of Council and City staff as required (non-voting). The Committee will consist of the following positions: Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Race Director, Treasurer, Secretary, Sponsorship, Community Events, Marketing and Communications and Business Liaison. Applicants possessing strong event hosting experience, acquiring corporate sponsorship and event marketing skills would be great assets to the Board.
