The City seeks proposals from individual artist/artists teams to occupy and work in an empty retail space in uptown White Rock. The intent is to repurpose retail space for a temporary period for artists to sell work, to rehearse or to produce creative projects.
The City intends to facilitate and inspire new artistic and creative businesses on Johnston Road through this Pop-up studio. Access to a space allows creative enterprises to test out markets with low risk and expand networks. It also often assists in foot traffic and stimulates trade through cultural tourism. The need for studio space was one of many items that came out of the City of White Rock’s Art and Culture Strategy, which was released in the fall of 2014 and included six goals and recommended actions to establish White Rock as a thriving cultural destination.
Artists must reside in White Rock or South Surrey in order to be eligible for the use of this space. The space will be given to artists for a minimum of one month and a maximum of two months.
