The City will be replacing the light poles on the Waterfront as they pose a potential risk to the public’s safety; especially, since two poles have fallen down within the last year. As a result, the City put out a tender to replace the poles. The light poles on the promenade along East Beach have dedication plaques attached to them.
The City of White Rock’s current Dedication Program enables members of the public to make a tax deductible donation to remember great achievements and great people.
The City has been operating under the following policy: dedicated items will be in place for the life of the fixture (i.e. lamp, bench, etc.) or for a maximum period of 20 years. The policy also allows the individual(s) the opportunity to renew their dedication for an additional fee. This information can be found on the City’s website on the Dedication Program page as well the application form for a dedication item.
This policy was set in place several years ago, and with aging infrastructure, the City feels it is time to review the Dedication Program.
At this time, only the light poles on the Promenade are being considered and will not be replaced until Mayor and Council have reviewed the policy for the Dedication Program. Members of the public who currently have a dedication plaque on a light fixture will be given the opportunity to renew their dedication. No other replacements of dedication plaques on benches, picnic tables, fountains, or other locations are currently being considered.
