The City of White Rock’s annual Water Main Flushing Program takes place from November 1 to December 15. Water main flushing is an essential proactive measure to maintain the City’s water distribution infrastructure and ensure consistent supply of high-quality water for residents.
The 2024 Flushing Program will be carried out between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, with the timing subject to change. Signage will be placed in your area when flushing is taking place on your block.
The annual Flushing Program cleans sediment from water distribution pipes, improving water quality and preventing corrosion to extend pipe lifespan. It also helps utility crews monitor the system, identifying and addressing issues like leaks or broken valves before they worsen. This is accomplished by flushing high-velocity water through fire hydrants throughout the system. Water main flushing is a controlled process that uses less water over the entire program than in one normal day of consumption.
Residents may experience a drop in water pressure or discolouration of their water when flushing occurs in their area. Any disruption should be brief and only occur while mains in the area are being flushed. If you experience a drop in water pressure or loss of water for more than three hours, please call the City’s Engineering & Municipal Operations department at 604-541-2181.
