The City of White Rock has been granted the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, which recognizes the City’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting for the City’s 2023 annual financial budget.
The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award was established in 1984 by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA), an organization dedicated to advancing excellence in public finance. The purpose of the award is to encourage and assist local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA’s best practices on budgeting.
To receive the award, the City’s annual financial budget documents had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines to assess how well its budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive an award.
“On behalf of Council, I want to acknowledge the City’s Finance Department for excellence in financial stewardship,” said Mayor Megan Knight, City of White Rock. “This is the second year running that the City of White Rock has been granted this award which reflects our ongoing commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.”
