Above all, I want to extend our condolences to the family of the young victim impacted by the tragic events of last night. Like many, I was profoundly saddened to learn of this distressing incident.
I am providing an update on the ongoing investigation regarding the recent stabbing incidents along our waterfront. The investigation into last night's event has been handed over to the RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
We understand the public’s concerns and the discussions circulating on social media regarding a possible connection between this incident and the one from last Sunday. Although there are apparent similarities between the two events, at this time, the RCMP cannot confirm that they are related.
Please be assured that investigators are diligently exploring all possible leads in collaboration with IHIT to conduct a thorough investigation. The incident from last Sunday continues to be managed by our local RCMP detachment, with ongoing support from IHIT.
The scene has been secured, and investigative efforts will continue throughout the day.
To address these events, we have heightened police presence and patrols along the waterfront and surrounding areas. Effective immediately, we are doubling our efforts with additional officers deployed, in addition to our regular shifts, to ensure public safety and instill confidence in our community.
We urge all residents to exercise caution and remain vigilant. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all our citizens. Rest assured, we are dedicated to keeping you informed and taking every possible measure to uphold peace and order in our community.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this difficult time. Anyone with information is urged to contact the IHIT at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
