The City of White Rock has received reports of fraudulent telephone calls made to citizens from numbers “spoofing” (appearing as) City of White Rock numbers. Callers pose as City of White Rock staff and ask for personal financial information in a style similar to the CRA scam that is currently widespread.
How to recognize a scam
A caller from the City of White Rock will not:
- demand immediate payment by Interac e-transfer, bitcoin, prepaid credit cards or gift cards from retailers such as iTunes, Amazon, or others
- send you an email with a link to your refund
- email you a link that demands you fill in an online form with personal or financial details
- threaten you with arrest or a prison sentence

To report a scam, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. The centre receives calls from Monday to Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., Pacific time.
