The City of White Rock will reopen City facilities carefully during Phase Two of BC’s Restart Plan, balancing the need to support businesses and residents with reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19.
City Council voted May 25 to reopen the Promenade and half of the overall Waterfront parking this week. Pay parking will be increased to three hours from two, and reserved, four-hour parking for residents with yellow decals from 2019 and 2020 will continue. The Promenade fencing will remain on site to allow the City to stop access if physical distancing is not being followed.
The opening of the Promenade is aimed at giving pedestrians more space to keep a safe, physical distance. More parking spaces are expected to give restaurant, retail and salon customers places to park while they dine, receive services or shop.

Mayor Darryl Walker
“As our leaders say, the reopening in BC’s Restart Plan is like a dimmer switch instead of an on-off switch. White Rock is treating our reopening the same way. We need to ensure the safety of visitors and residents so we can continue to bend the curve of the spread of COVID-19 and keep our businesses open in the long term.
When you come to White Rock to enjoy the Promenade, please buy some items, enjoy some food, visit a salon, and help our businesses with a great restart. While you do, please keep a safe, physical distance from each other, follow the rules for stopping the spread of the virus, and be kind and patient with one another. We are all in this together and we will get through this together.”
