RCMP Update
Staff Sergeant Rob Dixon shared an update on public safety in response to two incidents that occurred along the waterfront on April 21 and 23. View the statement.
Later in the meeting, Mayor Knight announced that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) had arrested a suspect in connection to the homicide case.
To address community safety concerns, the White Rock RCMP has scheduled a Town Hall meeting on April 30th at the White Rock Community Centre from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Town Hall will discuss public safety in White Rock and enhanced summer police patrols.
Kent Street Activity Centre Needs Assessment Study
A Partner from RC Strategies attended to provide a presentation on the Kent Street Activity Centre Needs Assessment Study. Council directed the report and the needs assessment to be provided to the Community Hub Steering Committee for consideration. Learn more.
Komagata Maru Recognition
Council endorsed a recommendation from the City’s Public Art Advisory Committee to develop a Heritage Interpretive Signage Plan, to be completed in 2025. This plan would ensure appropriate consideration of the Komagata Maru incident as well as other stories and themes significant to White Rock. The City’s Public Art and Culture Advisory Committee will be working on this project in partnership with the White Rock Museum and Archives Society.
White Rock - Home of International Artist Day
Council approved the select use of the phrase, “White Rock – Home of International Artist Day” to advertise arts and culture programs, activities, and events.
Initial Review of Zoning Application Files
Staff provided an initial review of three (3) projects:
- 1513 Johnston Road: 31 – story mixed use building including with 188 strata market residential dwellings, 56 rent to buy residential dwellings, 2,787 m2 civic space for a density bonus and two (2) commercial spaces. Council referred this project to the Community Hub Steering Committee for comments.
- 15156 and 15158 Roper Avenue: to amend the CD-4 zone by removing the requirement that limits retail service groups 1 use to be contained within a single strata until which includes a residential use so that the commercial units can be operated and owned independently from the residential units. This project was advanced to the next stage in the application review process.
- 1556 George Street: 26 -story mixed use building including 167 residential units, including rental / market residential and commercial space. Staff were directed to process the OCP and zoning bylaw amendment and to move forward with this application.
City of White Rock Annual Property Tax Rates Bylaw. 2024, No. 2490
Council received a report and later gave three (3) readings to the Annual Property Tax Rates Bylaw for 2024 (4.82%).
Placemaking for Johnston Road Project
Council adopted a resolution to allocate $10,000 of additional funds to incorporate additional placemaking design elements within the Johnston Road Phase 2 Construction project.
