Emerson Park Playground removed its construction fence this morning to make way for eager neighbourhood children who quickly put it to use.
Several neighbourhood families joined the re-opening event, which was also attended by special guest, White Rock resident Kiana Sahota, who in 2019 at age 11 made a presentation to Mayor & Council to appeal to them to re-develop the playground for the benefit of White Rock children. Kiana, now aged 14, cut the ribbon to officially re-open the playground.
The upgraded park features new playground equipment, refreshed landscaping, and playground flooring from Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC). TSBC contributed $27,481.50 specifically to the addition of the rubberized playground surface which is made from recycled tires. These surfaces have many benefits including safety – they are designed to meet CSA fall height standards, wheelchair accessibility, and low maintenance/all-weather use.
“I am just so pleased to re-open Emerson Park Playground with new equipment. Safe, accessible outdoor play areas are essential to keeping children active and healthy, and therefore essential to our community,” said White Rock Mayor, Darryl Walker. “I would like to thank TSBC for investing in White Rock. This contribution will be thoroughly enjoyed by a new generation of families.”
Emerson Park is located at 15707 Columbia Avenue.
