Cheque Presentation: White Rock Soroptimists Donation for Pier Accessibility Improvements
Members of White Rock Soroptimists attended in recognition of their $2,000 donation towards an accessibility mat for the White Rock Pier.
Introduction to the City’s New Manager of Communications and Government Relations
Robyn Barra, the City’s new Manager of Communications and Government Relations, was introduced.
Delegation – Surrey and White Rock Board of Trade
Members of the South Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce attended to provide an update on the merger process with the Surrey Board of Trade to form the Surrey and White Rock Board of Trade.
Events – Request to Serve Liquor
Council approved a request to serve liquor and have beer and wine gardens at the following
two (2) events:
- Picnic on the Pier presented by the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation, August 8, 2024; and
- Craft Beer Festival, presented by the BIA, September 21, 2024.
CCTV Cameras RFQ Outcome and Options
Council received a corporate report summarizing the outcome of the RFQ submitted for CCTV Camera installation in White Rock. Council requested that staff work further with the RCMP to identify up to five (5) critical locations and the cost per location, and for that information to come back to Council for further discussion. Council also requested staff to come back with costing options for security guard(s) and/or bylaw officer(s) to be utilized for further safety measures. View the full report.
Survey Results – Additional Hours Permitting Dogs on the Promenade
After reviewing the results from the Talk White Rock survey, Council approved a trial period (August 1 to October 1, 2024) whereby dogs would be permitted on the promenade early mornings, from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Contract Award: Vidal Street Sidewalk Replacement
Council approved the following:
- The contract for the Vidal Street Sidewalk replacement project to Canadian Landscape and Civil Services Ltd. in the amount of $227,621 (excluding GST).
- The engineering inspection and engineering support for the Vidal Street Sidewalk Replacement Project have been awarded to Ecora Engineering & Resource Group Ltd. In the amount of $30,000 (excluding GST).
- A pre-approved contingency of $64,400 (approximately 25% of the total project cost) has been authorized to provide support for the project.
This project will involve the installation of new sidewalk concrete panels to replace the existing pavers along Vidal Street, from Marine Drive to just north of Victoria Avenue.
Contract Award – Pier Accessibility Mat
Council approved contracts for the implementation of a 5’ wide Pier mat, which will be installed on the east side of the Pier as soon as possible.
The Pier Accessibility Mat was awarded to Epical Solutions in the amount of $81,796 (excluding GST), and the installation of the Pier Accessibility Mat was awarded to GDM Civil Ltd. in the amount of $8,280 (excluding GST).
Emergency Daytime Warming Centre Request for Proposals – Winter 2024/2025
Council directed staff to issue the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the operation of an Emergency Daytime Warming Centre for the winter 2024-25 season. The RFP will be issued for two (2) scenarios – having the centre open daily from October to March, and having the centre open only on days that are or feel like zero degrees Celsius. Submissions will come back to Council for consideration at a later date.
Temporary Use Permit 23-015 - 1554 Foster Street (Imagine Cannabis)
Council issued a Temporary Use Permit which will enable the establishment of a non-medical cannabis retail store at 1554 Foster Street. A Public Hearing/ Meeting was held on this topic on June 24th. View the meeting.
