As winter weather approaches, the City of White Rock is ready for ice and snow with 120 tonnes of salt.
City crews will proactively be applying brine ahead of winter storms to control ice on the City’s priority routes and hilly streets. Brine is a salt water solution treatment applied to the roads in preparation for ice to reduce snow and ice accumulation.
The City of White Rock manages more than 80 kilometres of roadways, and aims to maintain key travel routes, which are vital for transportation and for emergency vehicle access. The City’s Snow & Ice Control Plan prioritizes routes and identifies road closures, which are necessary for public safety. Steep hills may be closed with barricades for everyone’s safety.
The City of White Rock’s snow and ice equipment includes:
- One 5-ton dump truck with plow and spreader
- Two 1-ton dump trucks with plows and spreaders
- One 1-ton flat deck truck with a brine unit
- Two full-size pickup trucks with plows for parking lots and city facilities
When snow falls, the City is reminding the residents and businesses to keep sidewalks and streets safe by:
- Clearing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their properties by 10 a.m. every day
- Clearing storm drains of leaves and snow to prevent road flooding
- Reporting non-emergency snow and ice service requests to whiterockcity.ca/requestforservice
